Another new ship for AIDA Cruises

The third ship of a new generation will be delivered in 2023. The ship will have a tonnage measurement of over 180,000 and is 100% LNG-powered.

The German cruise line, AIDA Cruises, has commissioned MEYER WERFT to construct a further ship. The cruise line has signed a contract with the shipyard for the construction of a third cruise ship. All three of AIDA’s ships will be powered 100% by LNG, an eco-friendly fuel. AIDA’s first ship will be completed in autumn 2018, with the second and third following in 2021 and 2023.

“This contract means we’re already building our tenth ship for AIDA in Papenburg, highlighting the long-term partnership between the Carnival Corporation and MEYER WERFT. The three ships in the Helios range will be fitted with state-of-the-art technology to make them sustainable and energy-efficient”, explains Tim Meyer, Managing Director of MEYER WERFT.

The new ship will have a tonnage measurement of over 180,000 GT and around 2,700 cabins. It’s one of the first ever cruise ships to be powered 100% by LNG within the “Green Cruising” initiative, making it particularly environmentally friendly.

The engine room modules for all three ships will be supplied by Rostock shipyard, NEPTUN WERFT. These modules will contain the entire engine room for each ship, LNG tanks and all machinery systems and installations.

MEYER WERFT has now received orders for the construction of 14 ships to be delivered by 2023. Such a long-term outlook means the shipyard must have the capacity to constantly adapt and evolve. About 50 to 80 million euro per year are invested in the facilities in Papenburg. To date the shipyard is recruiting specialists in different area as IT and other departments.

Carnival Cruise Line To Grow Fleet By Two Additional Ships By 2023

MIAMI, June 23, 2021 /PRNewswire/ -- Carnival Cruise Line announced plans today to grow its fleet by two additional ships by 2023, taking the delivery position of an Excel-class ship that had previously been assigned to sister line AIDA Cruises that will arrive in late 2023, as well as taking ownership of Costa Magica from another of its European sister lines, with that ship going through a dry dock, renaming and Carnival-branded conversion and joining the fleet by mid-2022.

These two ships are in addition to the new capacity growth represented by Mardi Gras, Carnival's first Excel-class, liquefied natural gas (LNG)-powered ship which starts sailing from Port Canaveral on July 31 and her sister ship, Carnival Celebration, which will be delivered and sail from Miami starting in late 2022, as part of Carnival's 50th birthday festivities.
The addition of these four ships will bring the Carnival fleet to 27 by year-end 2023, and these ships bring many new amenities and features for guests, as well as environmental benefits and enhancements as Carnival continues to exceed and expand targets for emissions efficiencies.

"We are excited about these additions to our fleet which reflect the strong position that Carnival has established in the U.S., the pent-up demand we continue to see for cruise vacations, and the overall plans by Carnival Corporation to optimize capacity and growth in key markets," said Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line. "While our immediate focus is on our restart of guest operations this summer, this is another cause for excitement at Carnival, and we will be announcing more detailed plans about homeports, itineraries and ship names very soon."

MEYER WERFT conveys cruise ship Carnival Jubilee

MEYER WERFT's newest cruise ship, the Carnival Jubilee, is scheduled to leave Papenburg on Monday 30 October 2023 and will be transferred to Eemshaven (Netherlands) on the river Ems. Arrival in Eemshaven is scheduled for early Tuesday morning, 301 October. After the technical and nautical trials, the Carnival Jubilee will set course for Eemshaven again.

The Carnival Jubilee is the first cruise ship built in Germany for Carnival Cruise Line. Within the MEYER Group, it is also the third ship of the Excel class: the Finnish shipyard MEYER TURKU already delivered the Mardi Gras in 2020, followed by the Carnival Celebration in 2022. All three ships are equipped with low-emission LNG. The highlight for passengers is a roller coaster on board for the first time.

The following schedule applies to the Ems conveyance, which may be postponed at short notice according to weather and tidal conditions:

Monday, October 30, 2023
from approx. 09:30am Ship in waiting position (Papenburg)
approx. 12:00pm Passing the dock lock (Papenburg)
approx. 4:35pm Passing the Friesenbrücke (Weener)
approx. 7:45pm Passing the Jann-Berghaus-Bridge (Leer)
approx. 11.15pm Arrival at the Ems barrage (Gandersum)

Tuesday, October 31, 2023
approx. 01:30am Passing Emssperrwerk
approx. 03:15am Passing Emden

All information is subject to wind and weather conditions, water levels and therefore without guarantee. Time shifts are also possible at short notice!

Carnival Jubilee will sail the Ems towards the North Sea again backwards and with the support of two tugs. This way of transfer has proven to be successful due to the better maneuverability.

The transfer of the ship will again be carried out by the team of the pilot brotherhood Emden. The Ems pilots have been performing the maneuvers for many years. The team uses state-of-the-art technology to prepare for a realistic simulation of the Ems river passage in Wageningen (Netherlands).

The passage of Carnival Jubilee down the Ems will take place with the support of the Ems barrage. The duration of the passage will always be kept as short as possible so as not to interfere with navigation on the Ems. MEYER WERFT hands over cruise ship Carnival Jubilee

First ship for Carnival Cruise Line from Papenburg

Papenburg, December 4, 2023 – The MEYER WERFT team has once again completed a cruise ship and today handed over the Carnival Jubilee to the customer in Bremerhaven on the scheduled date. The newbuilding is the first ship for the shipping company Carnival Cruise Line (Miami/USA) to be built in Papenburg.

In recent weeks, the Carnival Jubilee has proven its seaworthiness during extensive technical and nautical sea trials and successfully completed numerous tests. At the same time, work continued on board for completion. The ship is 345.4 metres long, 42 metres wide and can accommodate 5374 passengers (double occupancy). The Carnival Jubilee has a wide range of entertainment options and numerous restaurants. The highlight on the upper deck is the "Ultimate Playground" with a waterpark including large slides and the "BOLT" roller coaster.

"With a strong team effort and a lot of commitment from everyone involved in the MEYER Group and our partner companies, we have once again managed to deliver a particularly innovative cruise ship to Carnival Cruise Line. I would like to thank everyone involved in its completion for their work", says Managing Director Jan Meyer.

“Our first ship built in Papenburg for Carnival Cruise Line is stunning, and being on board to take delivery, I’m proud of all the work our team and our partners at Meyer Werft have done in collaboration to bring Carnival Jubilee to life. Now, we start sailing her home so we can deliver her to our guests just in time for the Christmas holiday,” said Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line. “Carnival Jubilee’s Excel-class sisters, Carnival Celebration and Mardi Gras, have been extremely well-received by guests sailing from Florida, and so we have high expectations for this ship as she begins to sail from Texas.”

"The project teams at the shipyard and the shipping company, the many suppliers and the classification society have once again done an outstanding job on the Carnival Jubilee despite the many challenges," says Jürgen Storz, the ship's project manager.

The ship will begin its maiden voyage from its home port of Galveston, Texas on 23 December.
