Brodosplit to Build Megaship Blocks for Fincantieri

Brodograđevna industrija Split (Brodosplit) and Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri have signed two new contracts for the construction of fitted sections (grand blocks) for mega cruisers, which are being built in Italian shipyards.

The first contract concerns the construction of sections over 1,200 tons of steel equipped with pipe fitting and locksmith components as well as electrical routing with delivery deadline in the first half of 2019. This includes front part of the hull which will be loaded on a barge and towed to the Italian shipyard where it will be mounted on the ship.

With the second contract Brodosplit has been awarded a project for building the central section of the ship whose overall length is over 100 meters and weight over 3,000 tons, with delivery deadline in the second half of 2019. The construction will be watertight on both sides and self-towed to the Italian shipyard.

Brodosplit informed that, based on these and other contracts which are in preparation, the company would see a monthly income of more than EUR 5 million, resulting in a profit of around EUR 67.6 million a year in the period from 2019 – 2025.

The agreement on long-term business and technical cooperation until 2025 is the result of the cooperation between Brodosplit and the Fincantieri Group, which dates back to 2014, during which Brodosplit has built and delivered fitted sections for three mega cruisers which are being built in their shipyards.

In accordance with the agreed plans, engagement of a certain part of the Brodosplit workers for temporary work in the shipyard owned by the Fincantieri group is under preparation, and it will include performing special finishing works for luxurious cruise ships.

Delivery of mega section for Fincantieri group

A foresection off a passenger cruiser, whose construction will be continued in Ancona in one of Fincantieri's Italian shipyards, was lounched on the slipway no. 1 at Shipbuilding industry Split.
It is a mega block with a total length of 110 meters, a width of 28 meters, a height of 19.25 meters and a displacement of 4,400 tons, where the size and importance of the work done may be financially compared to construction of a ferry.

Zorka Penović, a member of the Finance Department who spent 41 years in Brodosplit's service, was given the honor to become the ship's godmother, and as such she cutt a champagne rope and symbolically “lounched“ the newbuilding into the sea.

The biggest transport and new delivery of mega section for Fincantieri group

The heavy cargo barge from the Shipbuilding Industry of Split has made a new delivery of the mega section for the passenger cruiser under construction in Monfalcone, the largest Fincantieri shipyard in Italy.

It is a section of the bow of the hull 12 m high, 40 m wide and weighing 480 tons, equipped with mooring and anchoring elements.

Unusual transport was carried out by 'Brodosplit' company Transportna sredstva d.o.o. which specializes in lifting and transporting extremely heavy loads.

The section is narrow and high, with a center of gravity of 7 meters, so the demanding embarkation was carried out with 2 self-propelled modular high-capacity transporters (SPMT), each individually with 26 axles, which is a total of 36 meters long by one conveyor, thus safely carrying the epitome of the boarding recorder. and the largest heavy cargo transportation in Croatia, proudly pointed out Milan Simić, the transport manager in Brodosplit.

The new delivery is a continuation of the cooperation started in 2014 when, for the first time in the history of Split, shipbuilders became the business partner of one of the largest shipbuilding groups in the world, the Fincantieri group.

The embarkation was carried out by horizontal transport on a barge with 4 lines of self-propelled modular high-capacity transporters (SPMT), each individually with 20 axles, which no one in Croatia has performed so far.

It was carried out by the 'Brodosplit' companies Transport Vehicles and Naval Cranes, which are specialized in this type of transport and handling of extremely heavy loads on land and at sea and these companies are confirmed as one of the greatest engineering potentials in the region.

Construction of mega sections for the Fincantieri Group

Split, September 29, 2020 - The boarding and new delivery of mega sections for a passenger ship being built at the Italian shipyard Monfalcone near Trieste took place in Brodosplit today.
It is a section of the central part of the hull, 40 m long, 30 m wide, and 10 m high, weighing 560 tons, ready to be installed to the ship waiting on the dock.

Boarding was done by a horizontal transport on a barge with 2 lines of self-propelled modular high-capacity conveyors (SPMT), a total of 44 axles, which uses the hydraulic or electric drive and can be a combination of several axles-trailers for carrying heavy loads. The boarding was performed by “Brodosplit” companies Transportna sredstva (Transport Means) and Plovne dizalice (Floating Cranes), which specialize in this type of transport and handling of extremely heavy loads on land and at sea.

The new delivery is a continuation of the successful cooperation started in 2014, when Brodosplit, for the first time in its history, became a business partner of one of the largest shipbuilding groups in the world, the Fincantieri Group. Ever since the cooperation started, more than 13,500 tons of equipped sections (mega blocks) were delivered for ten mega cruisers that were built in the Fincantieri Group shipyards. This is an important and profitable export business.

Construction, transport, and delivery of mega sections are unique projects for the Split shipyard, which constantly invests in equipment and machinery to meet the requirements of customers in terms of quality, capabilities, competitive offers as well as delivery deadlines. With them, Brodosplit continues to demonstrate its knowledge, quality, and skills in the joint construction of luxury passenger ships.
