Hurtigruten 125

With 125 years of service behind them Hurtigruten’s core business remains the same; daily serving the communities living on the ‘long coast’ of Norway between Bergen and Kirkenes.

Whilst the ships may have become more cruise orientated, the fascination of being on board a working ship with all its ports of call remains the same. Today guests are transported on an eleven day round trip of over 2,500 nautical miles with over half north of the Arctic Circle experiencing ever changing vistas which make up, what is rightly, called the ‘most beautiful voyage in the world’.

In more recent years Hurtigruten has markedly expanded its ‘Explorer Voyage‘ concept across the whole fleet and now includes cruises to Svalbard, Greenland, Canada, South America and Antarctica. Sailing in pristine environments comes with great responsibility; Hurtigruten’s new ships with their hybrid battery/diesel technology will allow them to explore without adding to the carbon footprint.

This book charts not just the history of the company over the past 125 years but also looks to the future, and is built on the success of the author’s previous Hurtigruten 120 book. The new title has a wealth of unpublished pictures from extensive research from the author over the last five years.

The publication date has been delayed following the Norwegian Government’s decision to tender the Bergen – Kirkenas contract as from 2021. Following the outcome of the new contract arrangements the book is now in the process of being produced and published.

Due to be published 4th July 2018
