Havyard taking over hull number 50 from Cemre

Havyard’s collaboration with the Turkish shipyard Cemre has been decisive in the company’s ability to deliver top-quality competitive newbuilds from its own shipyard in Leirvik in Sogn

On Saturday, August 24, Cemre Shipyard launched the hull of Havyard Ship Technology AS’s build number 144. The hull will now be towed to Leirvik for fitting out, testing and completion and is scheduled for delivery to Fjord1 in January 2020, to operate the Sandvika - Edøya service. This marks the 50th hull built by Cemre for Havyard, since collaboration started with the signing of the first hull construction contract in August 2005.

CEO of Havyard Group ASA Geir Johan Bakke says that Havyard would not be where it is today without Cemre. ‘It’s been a fantastic journey since our first encounter in 2005. At the time, Cemre was a company that rented premises for painting ships in other shipyards, which is how we met. We immediately hit it off and agreed that we would work together for ever, but we never dreamed that we would get to where we are today together. Back then, Havyard only consisted of the shipyard with 160 employees. The development both companies have seen since 2005 would not have been possible without this successful collaboration, and our relationship will be more and more important going forward as we take on the challenges the Norwegian shipbuilding industry is currently facing. Me and Orhan, the biggest owner and Chair of the Board at Cemre, are friends first and business partners second. That is vital when challenges arise, as they tend to do in our industry,’ concludes CEO Geir Johan Bakke.

Havyard has signed a contract for the delivery of another seven hulls from Cemre, in addition to the six vessels of Havyard design that are under construction to be delivered as complete vessels.
