Spennande å sjå kordan dette løses: "...will be fitted with hinged bridge wings that will allow her to pass through the locks of the St Lawrence Seaway and Welland Canal without hindrance"

Fra Latecruisenews.com:

And last week came the news that Hapag-Lloyd’s new 15,540-ton 230-berth expedition ship Hanseatic Inspiration will also offer itineraries in the Great Lakes in the spring of 2020. Like the same line’s Columbus of 1997, the new ship will be fitted with hinged bridge wings that will allow her to pass through the locks of the St Lawrence Seaway and Welland Canal without hindrance.

The Hanseatic Inspiration is the second of two sister ships being built by Fincantieri’s Vard affiliate in Romania and Norway. Her maiden voyage will depart Antwerp on October 14, 2019, for a 15-day cruise to Lisbon, Casablanca and Honfleur, terminating in Tenerife.

Hanseatic Inspiration voyages in 2020 will include March 25 to April 11 on the Amazon River and June 3-17 on the Great Lakes. The last time Hapag-Lloyd offered Great Lakes cruises was 2011, meaning the Hanseatic Inspiration will be offering the line’s first Great Lakes cruises in nearly a decade.

The 14-night Great Lakes cruise will include the Detroit River, Lake Huron, including Tobermory, Parry Sound and Mackinac Island, Sault Ste. Marie, Lake Superior, including Thunder Bay, and Lake Michigan.

The fact that the Hanseatic Inspiration is a Zodiac-equipped expedition ship, as opposed to a pure cruise ship brings up the interesting subject of whether she will be able to use her Zodiacs when landing passengers in US waters.

Antwerp's first ocean-cruise-ship naming will be Hanseatic Inspiration

Hapag-Lloyd Cruises will be putting two ships into service next year, with Hanseatic Nature being named in Hamburg and Hanseatic Inspiration in Antwerp

Hapag-Lloyd Cruises will hold the naming ceremony for its second expedition newbuild, Hanseatic Inspiration, in Antwerp. While several river-cruise vessels have been christened there, this marks the first ocean-going cruise ship naming for the Belgian port.

The festivities are set for Oct. 13, 2019, with the maiden voyage to Tenerife to depart the following day.

The announcement was made Saturday by Hapag-Lloyd Cruises CEO Karl J. Pojer with Antwerp Deputy Mayor Koen Kennis.

Pojer said the company is delighted to be celebrating the launch of its ship against the 'beautiful backdrop' of Antwerp, adding: 'We have enjoyed many years of excellent collaboration with all of the city’s representatives and our choice of location for the ceremony demonstrates our deep connection with Antwerp. It also underlines our growth strategy for the international market.'

Kennis thanked Hapag-Lloyd Cruises for the 'years of trust and confidence that the company has shown in the city.'

The line will be putting two ships into service next year. Recently it was announced the naming ceremony for Hanseatic Nature will be held in Hamburg on April 12, 2019.

The pair of sister ships feature cutting-edge technology and have the highest ice class for passenger vessels, Polar Class 6. Their routes will take the ships from one extreme to the other—from cold polar waters to the warm reaches of the Amazon.

Hanseatic Inspiration's 15-day maiden voyage to Tenerife will call at Honfleur, Guernsey, numerous destinations on the Iberian Peninsula, at Morocco and Madeira.

Hapag-Lloyd Cruises cancels new ship naming ceremony

The naming ceremony for new Hapag-Lloyd Cruises’ expedition ship Hanseatic Nature has been cancelled.

A showcase event planned in London three days later as part of its maiden voyage has also been dropped as a result.

The 230-passenger vessel is the first in a range of new-builds for the German company.

The Tui-owned line said: “Unfortunately the handover of the Hanseatic Nature in our requested five-star standard, is likely to be delayed, bringing uncertainty to our plans.

“Regrettably, as a result, we have to cancel the naming ceremony of that had been scheduled to take place in Hamburg on April 12.

“By cancelling the time-intensive naming ceremony we are now focusing on the preparations for the maiden voyage planned to depart on the following day. Also this schedule will be challenging.

“This planning uncertainty thus also forces us to cancel the media and sales event planned for London.”

A spokesman added: “Please be assured that this was not an easy decision for us to take, as truly, we would have enjoyed showing you our new expedition ship at this occasion in London.”
