SALT enters the wind farm segment

Louis Dreyfus Armateurs (LDA) in Paris, France, has ordered a new Wind Farm Service Operation Vessel (SOV) based on a design from Salt Ship Design in Stord, Norway. The new SOV will be built by Cemre Shipyard in Turkey, and the vessel will be delivered from the shipyard in Q4 2018.

The 83,0 metres vessel has a beam of 19,4 metres, and will be operating for DONG Energy, a focused energy company with a strong renewables profile. The SOV is well equipped with Dynamic Motion Compensated Gangway System along with unique on-board logistic solutions and great accommodation facilities. Salt Ship Design will deliver a complete design and engineering package for the new SOV.

LDA is expanding their services and fleet for the renewables industry, and their key personnel have been working closely with Salt for a long time to develop a vessel tailored for the industry needs – in particular focusing on enhanced operability and efficient logistics. This has resulted in a very purpose driven SOV – and adding the quality focused mind set of LDA into the vessel design, she will become a unique vessel in her segment.

This contract represents an important milestone for Salt, and we are very pleased to enter the Offshore Wind Farm segment with such a great client and a quality vessel. The growing renewables industry represents an increasingly important market for Salt.

"...is a Wind Farm Service Operation Vessel (SOV) for Louis Dreyfus Armateurs (LDA) in Paris.

The new SOV will be built at Cemre Shipyard in Turkey and will be sister vessel to the SOV already under construction at Cemre. Upon delivery, the new vessel will enter contract with Ørsted A/S, the largest energy company in Denmark"

Louis Dreyfus Armateurs (LDA) has placed an order with Salt Ship Design for a new wind farm Service Operation Vessel (SOV) that will enter a contract with Ørsted, once delivered.

The new SOV will be built at Cemre Shipyard in Turkey, and is the second vessel of this type being ordered by LDA for operations at Ørsted’s offshore wind farms.

Namely, the new order follows the one LDA placed with Salt Ship in February 2017. This vessel is currently being built at Cemre Shipyard and is expected to be delivered later this year.

According to an update from Salt Ship, the new SOV is a sister vessel to the one under construction in Turkey. This means that the SOV ordered now will be 83m long with a beam of 19.4m, and will be equipped with Dynamic Motion Compensated Gangway System, accommodation facilities, and unique on-board logistic solutions.

The vessel ordered last year will be used for O&M work on Ørsted’s German offshore wind farms Borkum Riffgrund 1 and 2, as well as Gode Wind 1 and 2. Salt Ship did not specify where Ørsted will use the second SOV.

Wind of Change is expected to enter full operations and start working on the Borkum Riffgrund 1 & 2 and Gode Wind 1 & 2 offshore wind farms as of 1 June.
The 83m SOV was ordered by the France-based Louis Dreyfus Armateurs (LDA) and built at the Cemre Shipyard in Turkey.
The vessel features diesel-electric propulsion and dynamic positioning (DP2) and is capable of accommodating more than 60 wind farm technicians.
The 450MW Borkum Riffgrund 2 offshore wind project comprises 56 MHI Vestas turbines which delivered first power to the grid in August 2018. It is located next to the 312MW Borkum Riffgrund 1 which was commissioned in 2015.
Located some 45km off the coast of Lower Saxony, the 582MW Gode Wind 1 & 2 has been in operation since 2017. The wind farm comprises 97 Siemens 6MW turbines, making it one of the largest offshore wind projects in Germany.
