Barreras Shipyard To Build Ferry Ship For Naviera Armas

Las Palmas, Canary Islands, Spain (PortSEurope) October 15, 2018 – Canarian shipping company Naviera Armas SA and the Barreras shipyard (Hijos de J. Barreras) have signed a contract for the construction of a 190 metre-long ferry vessel and capacity for 1,800 passengers.

The ship will become the largest of its kind built in Spain, says the Canarian shipping company. It is an improved version of the ships Volcán del Teide and Volcán de Tinamar, delivered in January and June 2011, on which various improvements have been introduced, said the company.

After the recent acquisition of Trasmediterránea, Naviera Armas has once again relied on the Barreras shipyard in Galicia, where it has built the bulk of its fleet. Within eight years, the Canarian shipping company has incorporated eight ships of new construction, constituting the maximum exponent of passenger ships in Spain.

Naviera Armas, a Canarian shipping company with 77 years of maritime history, continues to expand its fleet in order to improve the frequency, safety, comfort, and quality of the services it offers. Naviera Armas currently has 13 cargo and passenger ships, of the ro-pax, con-ro and cruise ferry types, which represents the most modern fleet in Europe.
