ROYAL CARIBBEAN ORDERS FOURTH OASIS-CLASS VESSEL

MIAMI, May 9, 2014 – Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. (NYSE, OSE: RCL) announced today that it has agreed with STX France to move forward on the order of a fourth Oasis-class ship for delivery in 2018. Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd.’s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Richard D. Fain and President and Chief Operating Officer Adam Goldstein, along with STX France Chief Executive Officer Laurent Castaing, announced the planned ship order at the keel-laying ceremony for the third Oasis-class ship at the STX shipyard in Saint-Nazaire, France.

“The Oasis Class was a revolution in maritime design when it was launched in 2009. Oasis of the Seas and Allure of the Seas continue to be in a class by themselves both in terms of guest satisfaction and financial returns. Today’s announcement is a reflection of their success,” said Richard D. Fain, chairman and chief executive officer, Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. “We are thrilled to announce the order of a fourth Oasis-class ship during the keel-laying milestone of the third. This announcement is also a testament to the men and women of STX France who have worked so hard and so cooperatively on Oasis III.”

The order is subject to documentation and satisfaction of financing and other customary conditions. Projected capital expenditures for 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018 are $1.4 billion, $1.4 billion, $2.2 billion, $0.3 billion and $1.5 billion, respectively, taking into account this order and existing ship orders.

Known for pushing the boundaries and as part of the cruise line’s continuous improvement mantra, Oasis III will be approximately 20 percent more energy efficient than Oasis of the Seas and Allure of the Seas, which already are the most energy efficient cruise ships in the world. The fourth Oasis-class ship will further build on that efficiency.

“We are very excited that Royal Caribbean has agreed to move forward with a fourth Oasis-class ship demonstrating their confidence in STX France to construct the most superior cruise ships in the world,” said Laurent Castaing, Chief Executive Officer, STX France. “We look forward to advancing the efficiencies of our ship building process to produce the most innovative ships that vacationers have come to expect from Royal Caribbean.”

The keel laying of the third Oasis-class ship marks an important milestone in the development of the ship, as it signifies the beginning of its physical construction. During the ceremony, a 1,000-ton block measuring 32-ft by 154-ft (10 x 47 meters) was lifted by crane into the building dock. Newly minted coins were placed under the keel and will stay in place there until the end of the ship’s construction. Once the ship is near to completion, the coins are retrieved and presented to the ship’s Captain and crew to be placed onboard the ship. According to maritime tradition, the coins are said to bring luck to the ship during its construction process and then to its Captain and crew when she is sailing out at sea. Still to be named, the third Oasis-class ship will be delivered in spring 2016.

The third and fourth Oasis-class ships will join Oasis of the Seas and Allure of the Seas – which took the cruise industry by storm with their launch in 2009 and 2010, respectively – and share the title of the largest ships in the world. They feature a revolutionary design with a split superstructure and the cruise line’s neighborhood concept of seven distinct themed areas. At 225,282 gross registered tons and spanning 16 decks with 2,700 staterooms, the Oasis-class ships also introduced extraordinary “firsts” at sea such as an 82 foot-long zip line, a handcrafted carousel, the Rising Tide elevating bar, the AquaTheater high-diving performance venue, and the Central Park with more than 12,000 live trees and plants. The Oasis Class also offers amenities that can only be found on Royal Caribbean, such as twin FlowRider surf simulators, cantilevered whirlpools, an ice-skating rink, the H2O Zone kids aquapark, and the Royal Promenade, an interior boulevard that stretches nearly the length of the ship and flanked by restaurants, lounges and boutiques, among many others.

MIAMI, June 9, 2017 – The newest member of Royal Caribbean International’s Oasis class of ships, Symphony of the Seas, is now one step closer to full completion as her April 2018 debut approaches. SYMPHONY OF THE SEAS

Kaotiske tilstander når verdens største cruiseskip gjøres klart for prøvetur

Flere hundre arbeidere jobber intenst for å gjøre «Symphony of the Seas» klar til overlevering.

Fransk stolthet
Han har bare vært to år i RCCL. Før det var han 14 år, blant annet som teknisk sjef, på verftet som nok en gang bygger verdens største cruiseskip. Det forrige var «Harmony of The Seas». Levert i mai 2016.

- Fasiten ble over 20 prosent. Symphony vil være 22 prosent mer energieffektiv enn Allure of the Seas, sier Leclerq.

Bonus
Brua på Symphony of the Seas er klar for prøvetur.

Successful first sea trials campaign for Symphony of the Seas

Symphony of the seas had to be postponed due to bad weather conditions. It eventually took place between Thursday the 15th and Sunday the 18th of February 2018. This campaign allowed to present almost every on-board system in only one sea trial. Currently in its completion phase, the ship, which is the largest ever, will be delivered late March to the Royal Caribbean International shipowner.

Over the 80 hours of sailing, Symphony of the Seas was able to cover 1,000 nautical miles (1852km) off Belle-Île island. During the trial, the full range of the ship’s systems were activated at sea, most of those being already adjusted and presented for commissioning both to the client and to the classification society.

Each and every expected performance was reached.

A second short sea trip will be necessary before the delivery to complete a few more nautical performances trials.

After a 1st campaign at sea two weeks ago, Symphony of the Seas spent 24 hours at sea last weekend to finalize the presentation of the ship performance to both the client and the classification society.

The last finishing touches will now take place on board before the ship delivery scheduled on March 23rd as per the schedule.

On this day, Symphony of the Seas joins Royal Caribbean International’s fleet
23 March 2018

Barely two years after Harmony of the Seas delivery, STX France reiterates its remarkable achievement with her sister ship, the world’s largest cruise ship. The flag ceremony took place in attendance of more than 1,000 crew members, RCCL officials, and political figures including Jean-Marc Ayrault, former French prime minister.

With 362 meters long, 66 meters wide, 70 meters high and 2,750 passenger cabins Symphony of the seas is able to host around 6,800 passengers and 2,000 staff members. This ship of astonishing size will soon be followed by a third of her kind, due for delivery in 2021.

Along the 30 years of collaboration with RCCL, STX France delivered 13 (tbc) ships and 5 more are already to come. This long lasting relationship is mainly due to STX’s talent for innovation and ability to anticipate its customers’ expectations and to turn them into audacious technical solutions enabling RCCL to offer innovative experience to its clientele.

In addition, with the aim to further develop the ship energetic performance, and reduce their environmental impact, STX France could set hydrodynamic evolutions up, as well as an ingenuous heat recovery system both contributing to reduce by a quarter the ship energetic balance.

Finally, this ship is the 1st one to be granted with the « SILENT-E » class from DNV-GL for her outstanding low level of noise under the water, making her more respectful of the marine wildlife and especially marine mammals.

“Today, is a day of pride for me and all STX France and sub-contractor’s teams, as we are handing over Symphony of the Seas to her owner less than two years after Harmony of the Seas. She is now the largest cruise ship ever and she’s leaving Saint-Nazaire’s yard after reaching outstanding finishing levels. She has taken advantage of the experience gained and of our progress-driven spirit which is one of our main characteristics. We commit ourselves to set innovation at the heart of our processes and to support RCCL who is always challenging us that way. I cite as evidence the ship energetic balance which has been amazingly improved by 25%.” stated Laurent Castaing, STX France chief executive.

I would expect another order for a final Oasis class vessel at Chantiers de l'Atlantique, as yard number D34 is still unused and the yard has one delivery slot in 2023 which has not been filled yet. 2023 is also the final year that a ship of this design could be delivered, as ships with delivery after 2023 or ordered from 2020 onwards have to comply with SOLAS 2020 if I understand it correctly.

I also have the Oasis class VI listed as hull. no D34 in my own overview for the yard for some time now...

Yeah I think that came from the list from your Austrian friend from AMEM (or did he get it from you? ;))

It could have been like that, but actually not as I read elsewhere some time ago about this third potential contract that fits perfect into the D34 slot :)

Symphony Of The Seas Officially Named By Royal Caribbean’s First-ever Godfamily

It’s official, Miami’s newest ship has come in. Royal Caribbean International celebrated the homecoming of the world’s largest cruise ship with the naming ceremony of Symphony of the Seas, the 25th ship in the global cruise line’s impressive fleet.

Symphony was named by Royal Caribbean’s first-ever Godfamily, actors Alexa and Carlos PenaVega, who along with 23-month-old son Ocean, were on hand to christen the ship and bestow a blessing of safekeeping over her crew and guests. Having celebrated many happy occasions onboard the cruise line’s Oasis Class ships, the naming ceremony marks the avid Royal Caribbean fans’ biggest adventure yet with the cruise line.

With almost 1,000 guests in attendance, Symphony of the Seas was christened while dockside at the cruise line’s new state-of-the-art Terminal A at PortMiami, making for the largest naming ceremony in Royal Caribbean’s history. The customary event was infused with modern day elements – ranging from an electronic violinist who serenaded the crowd throughout the ceremony, to a stunning sail away performance by nearly 400 choreographed drones – and also incorporated a number of local Miami touches.

Florida International University’s Marching Band kicked off the celebration, while students from Miami Southridge Senior High headlined the occasion on stage with a rousing drumline performance. Through Royal Caribbean’s partnership with the GRAMMY® Museum, Miami Southridge Senior High was one of 20 high schools within the Miami-Dade County Public School District that received a Royal Caribbean-funded grant through the GRAMMY Museum® Signature Schools program, which supports music education programs in underserved high schools.

Joining sister ship Allure of the Seas at Royal Caribbean’s state-of-the-art Terminal A, Symphony will sail 7-night Eastern and Western Caribbean with featured visits to Perfect Day at CocoCay, the global cruise line’s newly revealed private destination in The Bahamas. The 170,000-square-foot Terminal A, nicknamed the ‘Crown of Miami,’ is the most innovative cruise facility in the U.S. with an expected $500 million in revenue and addition of 4,000 jobs to Miami-Dade County.

It is anticipated that Royal Caribbean will welcome at least 1.8 million guests at PortMiami, representing no less than 30 percent of the port’s projected traveler traffic.

Symphony brings to life every family’s vacation dreams with a bold lineup of energy-filled, heart-pumping experiences. The new ship offers the chance to go head-to-head in a glow-in-the-dark laser tag adventure, take the plunge down the Ultimate Abyss – the tallest slide at sea towering 10 stories high – or soak up some sun after getting drenched on epic waterslides and FlowRider surf simulators.

After a day at play, families can dine at a variety of venues that will keep taste buds tingling, including Hooked Seafood, Playmakers Sports Bar & Arcade and El Loco Fresh for Mexican street-food fare, all before picking up the sweetest of treats at Sugar Beach. Adding to the excitement is the Ultimate Family Suite, a one-of-a-kind, two-story home away from home designed for both the young and young at heart, where families can enjoy a signature in-suite slide, private cinema, building block wall, Luckey Climber vertical maze for kids and whirlpool, among other premium services and amenities.
