Sunstone - Bygg nr. CMHI-196-1/-10 ved CMHI, ULSTEIN CX103 "Greg Mortimer/Sylvia Earle/Ocean Victory/Ocean Explorer/Ocean Odyssey/Ocean Albatross"

Sjuande skipet i denne serien, bnr.

This series is such a mess. I can't look ahead more than two boats! I think Sunstone may have missed the boat on confirming the last three ships. I doubt that they comply with SOLAS 2020. Under SOLAS 2020 regulations, ships had to be ordered before 1/1/2020 and delivered no later than 31/12/2023 if I remember correctly.

Neste X-BOW® cruiseskip for Aurora Expeditions får namnet ‘Sylvia Earle’

Skipsdåpen og jomfruturen i oktober 2019 vakte difor stor merksemd over heile verda.

KEEL LAID FOR THE 'OCEAN EXPLORER'

PUBLISHED 15. JANUARY 2020

On 16 December 2019, the CMHI Haimen yard in China carried out the keel laying ceremony for the 'Ocean Explorer'. This is the fourth ULSTEIN X-BOW® design in the INFINITY class of expedition cruise vessels that the U.S. based shipowner SunStone Ships has contracted to CMHI.

Ocean Explorer, vessel number 4 in the INFINITY class.

The 'Ocean Explorer' is based on the ULSTEIN CX103 design featuring the X-BOW® by Ulstein Design & Solutions.

The INFINITY Class vessels are 104,4 m long and 18,4 m wide. They have a passenger capacity of 264, and a crew capacity of 99, small enough to give an exclusive atmosphere, large enough to yield all expected services and facilities, such as jacuzzi, bar and restaurant, boutique, open-air cinema, gym and spa.

The flexible design of the INFINITY class series opens up to new possibilities for every new vessel. The 'Ocean Explorer' stands out from vessel number 1, the 'Greg Mortimer', by having an infinity pool installed on deck 7. Furthermore, and novel for this vessel, is a unique entrance atrium on deck 4 and 5 in way of main passenger entrance port and starboard. Another feature is an atrium forward consisting of a two-level lounge with piano bar and panoramic bow windows.

The first vessel in the INFINITY class, the 'Greg Mortimer', has received much positive feedback and media attention after her delivery in 2019. The X-BOW® provides gentle movements in head sea and reduces slamming and subsequent vibrations, this makes the crossing much more comfortable.

Vessel number three in the INFINITY class, the 'Ocean Victory', is currently assembled in the slipway at CMHI and scheduled to have her launching in early March.

Ocean Victory ready for sea trial

The expedition cruise vessel 'Ocean Victory', under construction at the CMHI yard in China, is scheduled for sea trials in the end of week 3, 2021. This is vessel number three in the series of Ulstein designed X-BOW expedition cruise vessel of the CX103 design for SunStone Ships.

All the expedition cruise vessels are on long-term hire to various operators. The 'Ocean Victory' has been chartered out to Albatros Travel for Antarctica journeys in the winter season and to American Queen Steamboat Co., through its sister company Victory Cruises, for Alaska cruises in the summer.

The INFINITY series of expedition cruise vessels are the first to be designed with the ULSTEIN X-BOW. Although proven in more than 100 ships, mostly offshore ships, the introduction of this feature to the cruise industry has redefined the cruising experience. In head seas, the impact will be absorbed, leading to reduced vibrations and reduced sea spray. This means that during the sea crossings, the vessel can keep higher speed, while comfort level is high. Important to note is that reduced friction when moving forward means reduced fuel consumption, which in turn, leads to reduced harmful emissions.

The vessel offers 93 suites.
