AIDA takes Costa ship

AIDA Cruises has announced that the ‘AIDAmira’, ex ‘Costa neoRiviera’, due for delivery next year, will sail for AIDA’s Selection programme.

Felix Eichhorn, AIDA Cruises President, explained: “The feedback we have received from our guests and the high demand for our AIDA Selection programme continually inspires us to keep expanding our variety of routes and to call at new dream destinations in the most beautiful regions in the world.

“Therefore, we are very pleased to have found with the ‘Costa neoRiviera’ the perfect ship within the Costa Group for our explorer fleet at such short notice. Many of our guests have been hoping for AIDA cruises to South Africa for a long time. I am pleased that we are now able to fulfil this wish,” he said.

Due to its size and design,’AIDAmira’ is claimed to be the perfect addition to the current three selection ships. Since 2017, ‘AIDAaura’, ‘AIDAcara’ and ‘AIDAvita’ have been sailing on unusual routes. The AIDA Selection explorer programme is ideal for cosmopolitan adventurers who would like to experience countries and cultures in an intensive and unique way, the German cruise company said

Before entering service, the ship will be redesigned and refurbished. There will be two large pools and two whirlpools on the sun deck of the 216 m long ship. Of the 624 staterooms, 96 will be suites, 80 of them with balconies. Guests will be able to take advantage of six bars and six restaurants.

‘AIDAmira’ will depart on its maiden voyage on 4th December, 2019, from Palma (Maj).

Her itinerary will also be new for the AIDA programme. For example, in December, 2019, the vessel will visit southern Africa. The departure and destination port on the 14-day trip – ‘South Africa & Namibia’- is Cape Town. Further port calls include Durban, East London and Lüderitz on the edge of the Namib desert.

Multi-day stops will occur in Cape Town and the ‘AIDAmira’ will also stay overnight at Walvis Bay.

Meanwhile, the newbuilding ‘AIDAnova’ will embark on her first cruise in November, this year. Two sister ships will follow in the spring of 2021 and 2023, respectively. AIDA’s fleet will then consist of 16 ships.
