Disney Cruise Line, Bygg nr. 125 ved MV Werften Warnemünde, Global class 201 000 GT Cruise "Disney Adventure"

The whole MV Werften Group - Wismar, Stralsund and Warnemünde but also the Lloydwerft Group in Bremerhaven filed for insolvency today! After talks with the German government and the state Mecklenburg-Vorpommern stalled, this step was expected during this weekend.
The employees are still waiting for their December wages.

There was an actually picture on friday inside the dock-hall in the german BILD-newspaper.
The 1st ship is complete to CIRCA 75% (?). The basic-structure looks mostly complete from outside, but most/all details inside are not completed.

Text in german from BILD-friday:

German/MV- state has offered 600 Mio. Euro if the malaysian owner pays 60 Mio. .
But he wants to pay up to yesterday only circa 30-40 Mio - so now today the insolvency.

Delivery was planned for autumn 2022. The ship "Global 1" is for 9500 (!) Pax, 334m x 46m and with very luxury interior.
Ca. 2000 workers are now waiting for a solution.

Ser Stena AB hadde planer om å overta denne, men det blei visstnok ikke noko av...

Ohhjeee... . I see the situation similar as with the Honfleur-ferry. The complete outside-main-structure is finished.
Only in the interior is to do still a lot of work. So they must find a buyer now for the ship and the buyer transfer it to another yard (f.ex. Chantiers Atlantique) which has space for a 342m x 46m ship and there it will be finished then. And then sold to any cruise-ship-company - OR - also possible in these times - as accomodation- / hotel-ship. With 4000, 5000 or 6000 cabins (including crew) it would be a solution for many cities and countries (refugees, homeless people etc.), for big sport-events like Olympia or football... .

But to scrap this ship now is absolute not to believe... and would be the maximum worst case.

The biggest cruise ship (Pax-capacity 9500 ! + 2200 crew) of the world GLOBAL DREAM will go to Disney Cruises !

Actually this new ship is ca. 75% completed in the Wismar-Yard "MV Werften", was ordered by now insolvency Genting-group.
The plan (still not signed today but it seems to be signed soon) is now that Disney Corp. buy this 75%-ship and Meyer-Werft will complete the ship then in Wismar for delivery in 2024. Would means also that ca. 950 "MV Werften" people can hold her job until 2024.
And Disney has a floating Disney World "made in Germany" by Meyer Werft... .

NOT SO FAST!!! There are ongoing discussion with the court appointed solvency Lawyer Mr. Morgen.

I think it is actually in the same step as a changing football-player from Club A to B.
All media are reporting it already - but the medical-check and final contract-signing is still missing... .

This ship is a really "mass-product" with relative small cabins designed for Asians. So for 1 or 2 or 3 week-cruises of high standard it is not the best, with ca. 9000 people much too full onboard for relaxing etc. . But for to stay only 1, 2 or 3 nights on a floating Disney World with "1000" slides, games, movies, playgrounds etc. it is a good solution.

It is similar as big hotels beside big entertainment-leisure-parks like f.ex. the "Europa Park in Rust".
They have many 1000 own hotel-rooms directly beside the park-entrance. So the people / families stay there only 1, 2, 3 nights for to use all things in the park - but not for a longer holiday-stay of weeks. And in the same way this ship is perfect as floating Disney-World offering also the Disney World experience for people in smaller and far away countries directly at her coast.
In January in Malaysia, in February in Vietnam, in march in Hongkong, in April in Seoul, in may in Japan, in June in Australia, in July in New Zealand, in August in Chile etc. . Stay in one country so long the people of this country full-booking the hotel-nights on the ship, and if the booking-numbers go down the ship goes further to the next country. If i would be the Disney World manager - i can not see any better solution than this ship ! Much more easier to get mass of people onboard the ship at her home-coast than to get all the people traveling expensive to Paris or Orlando.

According to the respected German Financial Magazine Capital, the insolvency administrator of the MV- Werften shipyards has sold the Global Dream to Disney for 40 Million Euros. Is that a "good" price? Or could a sale to a ship recycling yard have brought in more?

If you are the only one buyer worldwide you can press down the price very very much.
And Disney will now invest ca. 1 Milliarde (in Germany) for rebuilt the ship into a floating Disney World and complete the ship.

The Scrapprice i would tax at ca. 10 Mio., maybe a little bit more if there are independent interior things available for to sale separately - so 40 Mio. is a good deal for all sides in this "worst case insolvency situation":
- The german workers has for the next 2 years a lot of work to do
- Disney will get a new gigantic cruise-ship much cheaper than if they would have ordered it self new
- The german sides are happy to get the ship out of the hall / area in Wismar in the next 1-2 years, every day longer the ship just "hanging around" in the hall with unclear future costs also a lot of money.
