Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines to refit three ships

Three of Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines’ ships will be undergoing a refit this winter, as part of an extensive enhancement programme for the 2020-2021 season.

Several new public areas and cabin enhancement will be added to Braemar, Balmoral and Black Watch at the Blohm+Voss shipyard in Hamburg, Germany. The shipyard will also carry out general maintenance and refurbishment work.

“We are very proud of our smaller, classic cruise ships and we recognise the importance of investing in ongoing upgrades,” said Peter Deer, managing director of Fred. Olsen. “Our refreshed and renewed fleet has been very well received by both new and existing guests following the last round of improvements at Blohm+Voss in 2017 and 2018, and we are keen to showcase the latest enhancements to our guests before Christmas.”

New features will include a new ‘Oriental Room’, photo gallery and flower shop on deck six of Balmoral, and bathroom upgrades for several cabins on Black Watch. Accommodation onboard Braemar will also undergo an extensive refurbishment.

The ships will enter the yard through November and December, with work scheduled for completion before Christmas. The fourth ocean-going vessel in Fred. Olsen’s fleet, Boudicca, will be renovated in autumn 2020.
