The most expensive breakfast on a ferry - first place for "rip off" and last place in "value for money" goes to Brittany Ferries ???

In another the ferry forums last week was posted the "Brunch-carte" for breakfast in the biggest main-restaurant (a-la-carte) onboard of the ferry Bretagne for € 27,50, now another passenger has found the same for € 29,- on the Mont St. Michel ferry !
Means in fact with tips-money minimum 30,-, each kid costs 12,50 = € 80,- / 83,- and with tips-money 90,- for a 2 kids family only for breakfast !

((Please remember that the salaries / wages in Norway are much much much higher than in UK, Ireland, France and Spain ! A lot of normal people with simple jobs are getting there only € 1800,-/ 2000,- per month or less - in Spain only 1100,-/1200,- ((in Greece 780,-)). And all the food-products could be bought super-cheap in gross-markets (Metro / Macro / Transgourmet etc.) on land in the cheapest country there, also much much much cheaper than everywhere in Norway, the only country where LIDL has closed stores again))

But it is even more a big scandal if we look at the details what you get for all this really lot of money:

The breakfast is marked as "Brunch" - which means normally a combination of Breakfast and Lunch. In Germany this is offered in some restaurants and hotels mostly only on sundays for minimum 4 hours circa 9:30 - 14:30 circa for 12 - 20 Euro. But there it is really a big full-size breakfast-buffet as in 4-star hotels AND a Lunch-buffet with a lot of hot meals in buffet-style for take so often as you want and eat so much as you want for minimum 4 hours. So there is normally everything, soup, salads, meat, fish, noodles, potatoes, fries, fruits, vegetables, rice etc. . And the breakfast-part includes also scrambled eggs, Nürnberger sausages, bacon, meatballs etc., cooked eggs etc. - and sure also müsli, corn flakes, joghurt, etc. and all kinds of coffee, orange-juice etc. . So most people eat first 90-120 min breakfast - then talking 1 hour with your family, friends at the table - then 90-120min eating Lunch - all this for only 1 x pay the money - so it is a very good deal for the people if you are very hungry and can eat a lot.

And now we look on the carte of the ferry "Bretagne" what you get there for 27,50 - on "Mont St. Michel" the same for 29,- !

Open onboard is only 2 hours and before lunch-time it will be closed again !
So they offer 9 points from which 8 points are in the breakfast-buffet in every 3-star hotel, and the point with cold meat and smoked fish lift it to a 4 star hotel. Therefore missing all kinds of hot eggs, sausages, meatballs, bacon etc. what is already offered in 3 star hotels unlimited - so there in all hotels i can eat also 6 eggs and 10 meatballs and 12 sausages and a mountain of bacon if i want it. All this costs in all hotels (outside Norway) ca. 8,- - 15,-, in top-location as f.ex. Munich-downtown 16,- 17,- 18,-.

Then Brittany Ferries offers the "Main-course":
5 MAIN-DISHES for to choose between only 1 of them - sounds first not soooo bad - but in fact are 3 of these 5 (not 2 as marked with the sign at the bottom) are vegetarian / vegan or with vegetarian products as f.ex. VEGGIE BACON. ((Who wants to eat veggie bacon please ???))
Main 1 is a normal English breakfast, in Spain - with especially from UK imported products available at every corner for 2,95 - 4,- .
With 3 eggs instead of 2 and 2 or 3 original UK-sausages (really another taste than Germans or Spanish) instead of 1 maybe + 0,50 more.
Main 2 is the same - but with veggie bacon
Main 3 is a Omelette (also in fact also egg) with potatoes and salad with veggie bacon
Main 4 is a poached egg with spinach-leaves, smoked fish and potatoes (there was a picture from this dish in the other forum - looks nice, but a very small portion only, f.ex. for me much too less ! Maybe the right dish-size for a 50 kg model-girl...)
Main 5 is a toast with salad and potatoes

So only number 1 is a "normal" dish with meat, number 2 and 5 is vegetarian - and number 3 is with vegetarian products
((Who want to eat veggie bacon ???)) and number 4 is fish with egg and spinach.
And just to remember - for to choose only one of these 5 small mostly vegetarian main-dishes you pay 27,50 or 29,-... .
So in fact - who want just a normal not vegetarian dish with meat - and no fish-egg with spinach - can only order a normal English breakfast.

So it looks first very exclusive and well with a lot of dishes to choose between and a printed carte in Gala-dinner-style - but in reality it is not more than what the cheapest restaurant at every corners offers for all 94% "normal" people - an English breakfast.

So in fact they offer very very few breakfast only for very very very much money of 27,50 / 29,- - in fact 30,- with tipps and 90,- for family with 2 small kids / babies - and 120,- Euro for a family with a 12- and a 13-years old kid (1-11 years only = kid, 12-100 = adult)!

And the 2. super-negative-point is that nearly nobody wants vegetarian or vegan products
, they are on the way down already in a lot of countries, in Spain only less than 2% want it and in Germany less than 6% only - and it is down-going more again. Because of many TV-shows, newspapers etc. has reported massive about the not natural products inside of vegan / vegetarian products now more and more people eat again meat and fish sometimes - change back to "normal" from former veggie-life-style. Furthermore veggie is not good for kids. But BF offers 60% veggie dishes in the main-restaurant.

Only one small positive point: The passenger from Mont St. Michel has reported that the "Brunch-restaurant" for € 29,- was complete empty ! Restaurant open at the Brunch-time but not 1 person inside !

So please all people in Europe - do never anymore pay such extremly expensive rip-off prices ! Only if the restaurants onboard of ferries stay empty they must go down with the prices next year. But if the people now pays 30,- onboard only for a normal hotel-breakfast, it will be next year 32,- 33,- 34,- or more and 130,- or 140,- or much more for a family incl. tips-money.

Just for compare, example-picture of the hot-part of the breakfast-buffet in a cheap hotel with rooms for 49,- (Hotel Sportforum in Rostock). Here - as in every normal 3- or 4 star hotel - you can eat from all things so much and going so often to the buffet as you can or want, and if something is empty, staff is coming fast and refilling it again, so you get much more to choose between and much much more bigger portions as onboard of Brittany ferries:

And here the "highlight" from Brittany Ferries onboard "Bretagne" - the only one non vegetarian dish alternative to English breakfast:
There we have 1 poached egg benedict in a french-style-bread with a little bit smoked trout (X) (cheaper than salmon which takes most other restaurants with this dish !), sauce hollandaise (X), 4 spinach-leaves and 3 mini-rösti-potatoes (X). The (X) marked products are ready prepared convenience-products - no cook needed, just warm up. So a kitchen-help just need to put the products into the bread with the egg and put beside 3 of the mini-rösti - example-picture of Mc Cain... .
