Because of the insolvency of Genting Group / Star Cruises now very urgent a buyer is needed also for the 1990 built KALYPSO (now STAR PISCES) cruise-ferry.
Was since more than 2 years for sale via shipbrokers with price going down from 100 Mio. Euro/US-Dollar (2020) to 40 Mio., then to 25 Mio. (2021) and last 17,5 Mio. .
Now "Joint Provisional Liquidators of Genting Hong Kong Limited" will sell this still very nice cruise-ferry so fast as possible to the best cash/outright offer basis for prompt delivery “as is” from Georgetown/Penang, ca. 2 car-hours north from Kuala-Lumpur-Airport in Malaysia. Interested ferry-companies need to be fast, one of 2 Genting-yards in Germany was just yesterday already sold and the first "really" Cruise-ships / Hotels / Casinos etc. too !

STAR PISCES is the 1 year younger sisterferry of DFDS PEARL OF SCANDINAVIA and it would be great to see this really nice - and still modern looking - ferry again in Northern Europe ! On the paper she is from 1990, but she was "before her time" - so in practice she is today ca. 10, 15 years younger than on the papers.
177m x 30m, 40.000 GT, Ca. 1100 lm / ca. 500 cars, if more is needed, some inside-cabins easy to throw out = more space for cars on deck 5 = more space free available for trucks on the truck-deck. The originally layout of the DFDS-sister was for 620 cars. So ca. 50-60 trucks + ca. 150-300 cars would be possible as totally loading-capacity.
Pax-certificate to choose between 2200 and ca. 1400. Actually "only" 613 cabins and suites on decks 5 to 11, many double-size double-bed-cabins (2 former cabins rebuilt into 1 big), many cabins with balcony or XXL-window also and some suites with own whirlpool. Ca. 100 more cabins is easy possible, a lot of former Viking Lines passengers-cabins inside and outside are actually used as additional crew-cabins. 3 big show-lounges with stage, so 1 of them can be rebuilt easy in a XXXL-Tax-free-shoppingcenter, 3 bars/pubs, 3 restaurants inkl. 1 XXXL Buffet, Beauty-Salon, Gym, big Disco (deck 2), Big Spa with inside pool + 2 whirlpools, 2 x sauna, VIP Lounge area (could be easy a Truck-Drivers Lounge), shopping-arcade, 3 big sun-decks including 1 with pool, rebuilt with a wintergarden-roof would be also well for northern routes, Conference-lounges.
Quality-Built in Finland, 4 Sulzer-engines, servicespeed 21 knots, Bow-door and wide stern-ramps. Actually deck-plans in the Cruisemapper-website, the ship is rated with 5 Stars from 5 !

Thinkable routes for the north-european-ferry-companies, i know, the most ferry-companies like "freight first" - but for maybe only (ca. 5 Mio. will be the offer from Alang / Aliaga) 6, 8, 10 or 12 Mio. normally every company must take this really big special-chance to buy a good used big ferry now for pocket-money:
VIKING LINE could take her "own originally ferry KALYPSO" for Stockholm-Helsinki, she is much better and more luxury than AMORELLA, then AMORELLA replace the very old and smaller ROSELLA on the Kapellskär-route. = On 2 routes a better, bigger and more modern newer ferry ! Furthermore as 2nd ship on Helsinki-Tallinn against Silja Europa is possible.
TALLINK has actually only the 1989 built ISABELLE for the route to Riga. If they want again full service with 2 cruise-ferries as before Covid-19 the Star-Pisces is the best chance now. Normally this is very urgent, because Stena`s route to Lettland has now much better and bigger ferries than before and with only 1 ship it is difficult to hold again. Many people and trucks can not wait 2 days for the next departure, but the luxury Star Pisces would for many people also against the new E-Flexer the better choice.
ECKERÖ could take her as 2nd ferry Tallinn-Helsinki which is one of the Top-3-routes in Europe, but with only 1 ship for Eckerö and Viking the most customers will choose also in future on this route Tallink with Megastar and Mystar.
POLFERRIES could directly replace the extremly old WAWEL on the Nynäshamn-Gdynia route.
Is in Oslo the ferry-berth of Stena Saga still free ? Would be a perfect chance to start Oslo-Rostock f.ex. for Fjordline or TT-Line. Why a monopol Germany-Norway for Color Line ? Also Oslo to Frederikshavn, Hirtshals or Skagen is possible for every ferry-company.
For Strömstad-Sandefjord 177m is too long - or not ? If not - a good chance for Color Line and Fjordline for a "new used" XXXL-Tax-Free-ship.
In Stockholm the Birka cruise-berth is still free ?
If DFDS wants 2 identically ferries on Oslo-Copenhagen - this is now the chance ! Then the 1994 built CROWN SEAWAYS could replace 1 ca. 7-8 years (but looking 15-20 years older) older ferry on Newcastle-Amsterdam.
In Gdansk the ferry-berth is free, so perfect for to start Gdansk-Helsinki for all ferry-companies possible, maybe also Gdansk-Oslo ? Or to Stockholm against Polferries ? Stockholm/Nynäshamn - Klaipeda is another free route. If Stockholm-Tallinn and Stockholm-Riga is going very well, the same to Klaipeda can not be a problem. The port of Hanko want to have also more ferry-lines urgent.
IRISH FERRIES could it use as XXXL-Duty-Free-Pax-ferry on Calais-Dover, then one other ferry back to Irish Sea would be possible.
P+O could it put on Liverpool-Dublin as XXXL-Duty-Free-Pax-ferry, if not interested maybe another new chance for Irish Ferries ?
IF BRITTANY would like to have 1 Pax-ferry more - they could use Star Pisces on a heavy Pax-route and transfer the other ferry then to a normal "RoPax" route. F.ex. the Brexit-Bypass-route of Brittany has much to less departures.
Other thinkable route for all: Göteborg-Kristiansand-Edingburgh. Maybe Holland-Norway-line has a little bit more money to buy Star Pisces ?

So if anybody here has contacts to leading people inside of any ferry-company, please make QUICKLY FAST a proposal to buy the STAR PISCES now that we all can soon use her again in North-Europe ! She is still today a very comfortable luxury modern looking ferry. Otherwise maybe GNV, Corsica Ferries, Corsica Linea etc. will buy her or she ends anywhere as accommodation-ship etc. - or in worst case directly in Aliaga / Alang. Because of the high number of 4-bed-cabins she is not good for to cruise 1 or 2 weeks on her, so no cruise-company will buy her - but for a duty-free-day-/1-/2-nights ferry-cruise the STAR PISCES is - for this extremly low price - a very very good deal for every ferry-company ! And really - yes, she is built 1990 - but she is today easy to compare with any ferry built ca. 2000-2005, so it will be like a ca. 17-22 years old ferry for pocket-money... .

She needs a LOT of work to turn her back into a ferry. If I remember correctly DFDS also had to spend way more than planned on the conversion of her sister back to a ferry. Also, she is 30 years old and going for auction. End of story I'm afraid.
 
Takkar boathans, so any other ferry-company can use again the ferry-berth in Oslo every evening after the departure from the DFDS-ferry.
Why not start with this ferry Oslo-Rostock every 2nd day ? 18:00 dep. - 15:00 arrival. Stena is massive expanding in the complete baltic region, was starting with Karlskrona-Gdynia and the route to Liepaja, then Nynäshamn-Ventspils, now Nynäshamn-Hankö. Look Stena network 1990 and now. Also the routes from Rostock and Sassnitz was coming later by Stena. Remember my words: to Helsinki, Tallinn, Riga, Klaipeda and Gdynia new Stena-routes will follow in the next years ! "Steeling" the lucrative trucks from all others with old freighters. So why all others (Viking, Tallink, Eckerö, TT, Fjordline etc.) are not expanding on the westside of Sweden now ? Kiel-Oslo is going as Monopol very well since "100" years with extremly high prices and with very good booked XXXL-ferries (number 1+2 worldwide). Holland-Norway line has already some departures fullbooked before starting and with extremly high prices ! Stena has Monopol Göteborg-Kiel, Göteborg-Frederikshavn and Kattegat - why ?
Since 1990 Rostock would be the "logical" best port to/from Germany and big parts of Europe - and in the future also to Gdansk is interesting.
To start NOW this route with a "super-special-offer-ferry" for pocket-money would be the best chance for every ferry-company. Buy now in march, transfer to Europe in April, some small prepare-work in may, start in june the new route before the summer high-season ! Theoretic also a short stop in Skagen would be possible !

Yes, she is 32 years on the paper, but STAR PISCES / KALYPSO is really still in very very good condition, last part-renovation and refurbishment was in 2021 (!) including new-painting for the new cruise-route in Malaysia. Look to these superactually videos of some of the last cruises in january 2022 some weeks ago. All areas fresh, clean, no rust, fresh painted etc. inside - outside - Poolarea looking like new, lifeboats, livejackets, livefloats looking like new, carpets clean, cabins clean, furnitures like new etc. . All chains, ropes, signs, stickers, deck-carpets outside looking fresh and without rust. All signs are in english, just change the asian signs with signs of the port-country (swedish or german or polish etc.). So optical is nothing to invest ! Asian style can stay also - it is "trendy", "cool". So f.ex. the Sushi-Restaurant must not be changed. Just marketing it with "our new fleet-member with a taste of Asia" . And the change from 1 of the 3 big lounges into a XXXL-Tax-Free Supermarket is really easy and cheap to do.
These travelagent- and family-videos from a "complete" cruise are with a little bit "private-family-stuff" also - but you can see the different cabins (much better than newest E-Flexer f.ex.), nearly all inside public spaces, korridors, stairs, the outside areas, outside pool deck in use with hot whirlpools (similar like new !) etc. .


Maybe Scrubbers are needed ? But the price for to get the ferry now is so extrem low that it is possible also to invest a little bit more if needed.
The stern-ramp was used always for to bring food and drinks onboard, so she is also ok for the technical ferry-use, car-deck, truck-deck there are no bigger problems. I would start "directly" in the actually deck-condition, and if then it is really more space for cars / trucks needed, it is easy to built out many cabins from deck 4 + 5 and use it as additional car-deck = the full lower deck only 100% for trucks available.

Because of many years the cruises was very very short - only some km out of the port - then casino-playing 22 hours onboard and back into the port - the engines are on the paper 32 years old but in reality with very few operating hours only = in fact only similar like 10, 12 or 15 years old ! Only 1 or 2 engines used often with slow speed 1, 2, 3 hours a day all the years as Casino-boat.

Any "perfect" rebuilt as the DFDS-sister is not needed, why ? I think there was a "project-manager" going around, has found 1000 things onboard which was not identically with the 2nd Kopenhagen-Oslo ferry - and so it was much work to do... . But i am sure that it was much more work - than what would be needed minimum. The "every ship has the same restaurants-concept" f.ex. is a big error in my eyes. Nothing is so terrible as f.ex. the "Metropolitan" on all Stena-ferries and similar standard-restaurant-system also at other ferry-companies. Also f.x. a wintergarden to cover the pool-deck would be nice - but it is also possible without it ! The cheapest crew-member 2-3 hours there as "pool-boy" and then the complete night close the pool-deck-area. There are enough other outside-decks and furthermore 3 pools inside. F.ex. in use for Viking Line parallel to Silja Serenade to Helsinki: A free-of-any-costs outside pool-deck ca. 18:00-21:00 open with hot whirlpools - would be a really very hot point against the big atrium-area on the Silja-ships - and would be much much better than Amorella... . So not copy - but use the things onboard and offer a little bit difference. The Spa on Viking Glory/Grace is very nice - but it costs 25 Euro for 90min ! So with the "old KALYPSO" Viking could have a unique special extra-point - only with the big (free of any costs) outside pool deck. And Silja could not copy this fast... . In winter to cold ? No - outside hot-whirlpools in winter are absolut trendy - many mountain-hotels offer especially this:

Important also the future use-tim - this ferry is not for the next 30 years - but perfect for the next 6, 8 or 10 years as "intermediate" solution until newbuildings (or newer used ferries) are arriving or for to test-start new routes with minimal invest-costs and lowest financial risk. There is really no problem with this ferry for this extreme low price. But she is a Pax-oriented-ferry, only for trucks mainly she is not good. But if any ferry-route has only ca. 50-60 trucks maximum - than STAR PISCES is perfect !
Don`t forget the extrem low price, everybody can buy this ferry now for 6, 8 or 10 Mio. only ! VIKING GLORY was 225 Mio. and the new big Ropax-ferries (E-Flexer, TT-Line, Honfleur, DFDS Aura/Luna etc.) are in a price-range of CIRCA 120-150 Mio. . The liquidation-office would accept even cash-money in a plastic-bag ! And after some years in use as ferry Alang or Aliaga will still pay ca. 5 Mio. for her - so where is the risk to buy her now ?

So i know many of the northern-european-ferries personally, if i would give VIKING LINEs ROSELLA 2 points, AMORELLA 3 points, STAR PISCES / KALYPSO 4 points and GRACE/GLORY 5 points - i think this is a very realistic rating - and shows the extremly big chance for all ferry-companies to get now an older used, but very very good and still modern looking ferry for very small pocket-money.
In use for TALLINK to Riga STAR PISCES would be more popular than ISABELLE. If ROMANTIKA is back in 3, 4, 5 years maybe then sell one of these ferries.

ECKERÖ could start Stockholm-Aaland-Tallinn-Helsinki daily (arrival in the morning in Tallinn, then 1 x t/r to Helsinki over the day and in the evening back from Tallinn to Stockholm) with the FINLANDIA + STAR PISCES. If not now the 2nd company from Stockholm to Tallinn is eckerö or Viking - Stena will be it in some years with old Visentinis on other routes replaced with E-Flexers !
If DFDS would buy the STAR PISCES they would have on 2 routes each 1 "new" better ferry for pocket-money. Also important for the marketing to have something new after so many years "always the same". And with ratings, i would give the 1994 built DFDS "Split-built-sister" 1 point more always than both old Newcastle-Amsterdam ferries from the 80ies.
I get every week a newsletter from TT-Line with "cruise-offers" on the old TT-Ropax-ferries. STAR PISCES is not a RoPax-ferry - but also for TT-Line, why not to start another "mainstay" with STAR PISCES to Oslo beside all Ropaxes around Trelleborg ? In longterm the strategy of TT-Line is much too much narrow-gauge. And if Rostock-Oslo then going very well they could take a freighter parallel (as Destination Gotland it has now to Nynäshamn) or in the future take bigger Ropaxes with more space for trucks.
And for all companies: Now - with full tax-free - Liverpool-Dublin would be the money-maker-route with a big Pax-ferry ! Look on a map how many million people can reach the brandnew ferry-terminal in Liverpool in only ca. 1 hour ! And in UK now really everything is more expensive than in Europe. Just copy the Viking-Line system, slowly fuel-saving evening-departure in Liverpool - 1 big shopping-day in Dublin and then in the night with party onboard and Tax-Free-XXXL-shopping home again.

Who call Tiffany Wong or Eddie Middleton in the liquidation-office and offer f.ex. ca. 6, 8 or 10 Mio. for STAR PISCES ?
