Wagenborg Offshore signs contract for multipurpose offshore vessel on the Southern North Sea

WAGENBORG OFFSHORE HAS SIGNED A LONG-TERM AGREEMENT WITH AN ENERGY MAJOR FOR THE DEPLOYMENT OF A MULTIPURPOSE OFFSHORE VESSEL. THE LATEST ADDITION TO THE WAGENBORG OFFSHORE FLEET IS A CUSTOM-MADE AND SPECIALIZED OFFSHORE VESSEL THAT WILL SUPPORT SUBSEA ACTIVITIES AND DECOMMISSIONING WORKS IN THE SOUTHERN NORTH SEA.

Conversion

An existing young PX121 platform supply vessel will be converted into a multipurpose offshore vessel within 34 weeks at the shipyard Royal Niestern Sander in Delfzijl. During this period, dozens of local employees will work on the innovative conversion of the ship, which will give an impulse to the regional employment. The vessel will be equipped with an additional accommodation module for 20 people. Also, an active heave compensated crane will be installed to comply with all customer requirements. The ship will also have an Emergency Response and Rescue Vessel (ERRV) class C notation enabling the vessel to perform emergency response and rescue duties. By the end of Q2 2023 the vessel will be christened and the name will be revealed, after which it will commence its services on the Southern North Sea.

Market leader

With five operational specialized offshore vessels on the North Sea, Wagenborg can be considered as one of the market leaders in this offshore niche. All offshore vessels have proven to deliver efficiency and logistical advantages. In 2015 the first walk-to-work vessel ‘Kroonborg’ introduced by Wagenborg and Niestern Sander was awarded ‘Ship of the Year’. In 2018 Wagenborg delivered ‘Kasteelborg’, a walk-to-work vessel after a conversion project. In 2020 the ‘Keizersborg’ and in 2022 the ‘Koenigsborg’ were delivered, both also after a conversion project. The Koenigsborg was awarded ship conversion of the year.

"2023: Aurora Thunder has been sold to Wagenborg and will be converted to a multi-purpose, Emergency Response Rescue Vessel with accommodation for at least 20 and with an AHC crane, to support subsea activities and decommissioning operations in the Southern North Sea."
